Kashmir in the Yoke of Slavery
Kashmir has been burning and bleeding in the yoke of slavery. Its enslaved population is facing cruelties of subjugation in this post-modern era. The largest democracy of the world is depriving it of its fundamental right of self-determination. It is ironic that the so-called champions of human rights and custodians of democracy rarely pay lip service for the fundamental right of freedom of the innocent Kashmiris.
Kashmir is the main apple of discord between Pakistan and India that has generated bad blood between the two historical archrivals since their birth in 1947.India adopted double standards of running with the hare and hunting with the hounds when the status of 562 princely states was to be decided. It incorporated several states in its fold at gun muzzle that was against the spirit of the Partition Plan. Pakistan and India fought horrible wars to resolve Kashmir issue through combat that added fuel to the fire. These blood-spattered clashes complicated the already grim situation.
Several new issues surfaced due to this core issue that further deteriorated relations between the two neighboring countries. All these issues revolve around the status of Jammu and Kashmir. Now Pakistan and India are engaged in composite dialogues but despite several rounds of talks there is no major breakthrough on the key issues; therefore, their fate is hanging in the balance. Several formulas were proposed to resolve the issue but till yet no concrete step in this regard has been materialized.
Now the situation is totally different from the previous ones because both countries have gone nuclear. They cannot enjoy luxuries of conventional wars and conflicts. Therefore, it is in the interest of both countries to resolve their conflicting issues through dialogue rather than through gun battle that can trigger a nuclear warfare that would be devastating for both countries. No solution would be acceptable to Kashmiris that would not include will of the indigenous people. Therefore, in order to permanently resolve the sizzling issue of Kashmir there must be tripartite dialogue.
