Swat is a part of NWFP (North West Frontier Province) in Pakistan. Dubbed as Switzerland of Pakistan, this place is now no where under the control of democratic government of Pakistan, nor it is being managed by the Pakistani army. Country's constitutional rules have become invalid there since the place is totally captured by Taliban. Under various pretext Talibans have imposed strict Islamic rules there and implement those through their might. Anybody found opposing Talibans, gets the death punishment without any second thinking.
Pakistan claims to be the closest partner of US in the fight of terrorism in this country. The government has failed or its officials have no guts to tackle Taliban in their own country. It is beyond apprehension that how this thrown out Taliban from Afganistan has established themselves in the hilly areas of Pakistan steadily without any support from the government. The country's political leaders, defense leaders, and other elites seem to have no concern about a part of the country going in stain.
Almost 70% of NWFP is under the control of Talibans. Government machineries either do not exist or exist silently.Government officials have fled from many a places to Peshwar, Islamabad in the country, or outside the country depending on their financial capabilities.
The last dictat of the Taliban was to stop females from going to school of any kind. Every girls school was threatened to close the by 15th of Jan. '09 or they will take stern action against the school authorities as well as on students. Residents of the place are living under extreme panic and unable to contact their relatives outside the place. The situation has gone so bad that other government offices too are not functioning. If immediate steps are not taken, then the tentacle of Taliban will spread out of reach to grasp the whole country sooner than later.
This country never got off well after independence from India in 1947. Their dirty tricks, both inside and outside the country, have ruined it to that extent that it has indeed become an impossible task for them to come back to normal without the help from outside.
