“The gladiators themselves were vulgar. They were sweaty, they stank and they swore. Why not show them as they really were?” says mr. Umberto Broccoli, the head of archaeology at Rome’s city council. Rome is actually planning to relive the mighty gladiators who spellbounded and terrified the audience of the colosseum.
The city authorities of Rome are planning a rerun of the gladiator excitement, so that the people visiting the colosseum get a real feel of the ambience that pervaded there. The modern gladiators would take part in realistically choreographed melees on the same grounds where their mighty predecessors had lived and died. And the authorities also confirm that this would not be a Disneyland like project, it would rather be a more somber reality show, in order to portray the real excitement. In fact the authorities confirm the fact that the modern gladiators would wear original gladiator costumes and will use the same weapons that were used before.
The intention behind bringing back the gladiator show to the colosseum is to make the colosseum more spectacular and real to the five million people who visit the colosseum annually on an average. Mr. Broccoli also divulged that the gladiator shows would be accompanied by recitations from famous Latin poets like Seneca.
