Haryana government recent decision is a big blow to the women working in BPO sector. Government decided to not allow the working of woman in night sift. This causes a major concern for the women working in BPO sector in Gurgaon. According to the industry estimates women constitute for the 40% of workforce in BPO sector in Gurgaon. To avoid the night sift is not possible in BPO sector. Because outsourcing are done by breaking the time zone.
Analyst says if Haryana government goes with this decision, then it may hit its BPO industry very badly. It will cause most of the BPO’s companies to sift their bases to some other town. This will cause a major revenue lose to the Haryana government. Today BPO sector bring the revenue of 5.2$ to the state government. Where as centre has already decided to amend the Factory act 1948, to facilities the night sift working of women, if adequate security is provided to the women. This is the decision in right direction, if implemented. This will allow the equal opportunity for women at work place.
This amendment is sought after by the different women groups as well as court. In near future IT companies are going to employ much large number of employ and a sizeable number of them will be women. Therefore decision of Haryana government is not with the time at this movement. This decision will deprive lot of women from their potential opportunities. Any decision of this type, can be perceived as anti women.
In the place of this decision, Haryna government should increase the facilities and safeties for women. More steps should we taken to increase the security at night. By increasing the patrolling on the roads, this problem can be taken care of. Also by checking that women are provided all facilities for working at night, this situation can be improved for women. Government should reconsider its decision for the benefits of Lakhs of BPO women workers.
