It is ironic that on this day when we celebrate the Independence Day of our country, we also have the benefit of being governed by the most corrupt government in the history of the country. Never before has the country been hit by as many scams and scandals as it has in the past 3-4 years. What's worse, this Government is led by the so-called cleanest politician in India. This really is a very sad sad picture of India.
Each of these scams run in crores of Rupees and has central ministers involved in them. If Raja was responsible for the multi-crore 2G scam, then Kalmadi was at the center of CWG scam which put India to shame in the global arena. Not too far behind are scams such as the mining scam, the Adarsh flats scam, real estate scams and so on and so forth. These scandals and scams not only hurt India's image, but also dent the overall lifestyle of the common man.
The common man found a focal point in Anna Hazare in the campaign to get a Lokpal Bill in place that can help fight this rampart corruption. But the government in hell bent on ensuring that the bill is delayed as long as possible by disagreeing on points so as to delay the bill. What's worse, anyone who raises a comment on the corrupt government is personally targeted by the propaganda machine of the Congress party. After eating up crores of Rupees these people raise doubts on some 100s or 1000s of Rupees that are unaccounted for these individuals!! This is the height of ridiculousness and the height of misuse of powers.
But, then what is the alternative for this Congress government. The BJP governments barring Gujrat and Bihar have also been rocked by scandals. The Yediyurappa govt. in Bangalore is a prime example. The scandal after scandal rocking the state is a real sad statement for the alternative to Congress Government.
So where does this leave the common man!! Absolutely in the middle of nowhere. I think it is time for the common man to make his stand clear and take these ministers to task. It is time for the common man to unite and form small task forces which can take on the government. Anna Hazare is the first step, but this alone might not be enough to deter this corrupt government. Others need to follow in his footsteps and take on the fight. As a common man we need to stop the petty corruption we indulge in by stop paying the Traffic policeman etc. as the buck stops now!!
Let' make this the pledge of this Independence Day that we will take concrete steps to stop corruption involving our selves and are willing to bear the consequences of this!! If each of us are determined to take this step, the day of a corruption free nation is not very far off!!
Vande Mataram!!
Cheers!
