A HIGH DISTINCTION FOR HIS MAJESTY KING MICHAEL I OF ROMANIA, A MEDAL MADE OF TOMBACK having a diameter of 7 cm was awarded by the National Bank of Romania on October 3, 2011.
There have been made 300 copies of it, remembering the one of 1947.
In the honour of this distinguished and patient sovereign of the Romanian people, once with the month of October when His Majesty turns on 90, this medal wants to honour the stature of this worthy personality. In the tumult of the common day by day events, on the background of the world crisis, this medal seems too small for the one who has been contemporary with Churchill, Roosvelt and Stalin. For the Romanians who know that His Majesty, even in exile, started an external fight for the desovietization of his kingdom, trying hard, day by day, year by year, to gain a piece of liberty for the Romanian people, wishing and feeling the same way with the Romanians who remained and faught within the borders till the supreme sacrifice, demonstrating the patriotic reason of his life, this medal is still obviously not enough.
But it is however, maybe, a beginnig. It is, as Her Royal Highness Princess Margareta of Romania said once with this event, -"something official", not cultural only. It is maybe the beginning of the rebirth of the Romanian awaken people.
Also, His Majesty King Michael I of Romania was not present, in Romania at the festive historical moment, but His Majesty will be in Romania on October 25, 2011 to speak to the Romanian people in the Parliament.
