In an interesting turn of events here in India, Telecom minister Kapil Sibal has asked websites and social media sites to screen the content their users is posting. Kapil Sibal met executives from top internet companies like Google, Facebook and Yahoo, to discuss the issue. He showed them alleged derogatory, defamatory and inflammatory content about Sonia Gandhi and PM. He told them that it is not acceptable to the govt if website keep on allowing the users to post such kind of contents about Indian Leaders and religious figures.

Team Anna had also used social media extensively during their ant-corruption movement, and it was really a big hit on the internet. There were a lot of online discussion forums apart from Facebook and twitter, where there were a lot of opinions (biased or unbiased) floating around on how govt has blundered against Anna. People supported this anti-corruption protests on social media sites, and as a result anti-govt (or anti Indian leaders) slogans were trending on twitter and Facebook. Expressing their objection on the matter, govt has suggested that internet and social media sites should make sure that the content should be screened by human beings before getting published on these websites.

Many people have called this an act of insecurity on the part of Govt, and some are even saying that this is not even achievable. There are thousands of tweets and hours of videos get posted on Facebook, twitter and Google every minute. Cost of screening them manually may even put these websites out of business.
