Children Die in Baghdad Car Bombing

Children Die in Baghdad Car Bombing 26 people are died in Baghdad this morning when a car pulled up to a U.S Convoy and exploded. The convoy had temporarily stopped to hand out sweets to young Iraqi children during the celebration of the opening of a new water treatment facility. The Islamic extremists, pulling up to the convoy, detonated a bomb that killed one American serviceman, the suicide bomber, and an appalling 24 children. The explosion completely blew out nearby buildings and left the childrens’ mutilated bodies strewn in a “gigantic pool of blood”. Parents rushing to the scene barely recognized their children and cried in bitter anguish at such a heartless attack. This kind of attack on Children is not uncommon in this brutal war. American soldiers often patrol the streets, handing out candy, school supplies, and even monetary compensations to Iraqi citizens and children. However, the slow moving convoys with troops dangling out of the sides, shaking hands with kids and residents are often easy targets for suicide bombers. In September, bombers attacked another U.
S. Convoy in a similar situation killing 34 children. Ironically, the convoy hit today was a part of a celebration for a new water treatment plant, something the Iraqis desperately need as bombings have decimated usable resources. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like the insurgents even care. The irony is that they sincerely believe they are helping the cause of Islam and of Iraq but they are clearly just destroying the economy, decimating needed resources, and rattling a government that is legitimately trying to help the people. The violence in Iraq escalates daily, and to what end, no one actually knows. American Vice President Dick Cheney stated that the insurgency was in its “last throes”, but it seems like everyday the insurgents become bolder and bolder- more and more reckless in taking innocent lives. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4678207.stm
