At last: it is PROJECTS HIT THE ROAD
Well, its one
another busy day in Bangalore with people busy going to
their work places. But today there is a smell of difference
in the air, what was it? Yes, it is the sense of feeling
that there is something good going on. It was the
difference created by the IT sector. The state government
has started the renovation of 19 important roads (total
length 22.34 km) in the city. With the IT honchos accepting
the plan on Friday, the commencement of this mega project
Operation Bangalore. What more? Hey this is no ordinary
civil project. It includes the involvement of the IT czars
in Bangalore like the biggies of Infosys, Flexitron...It is
really astonishing to see the government take to heals with
the pressure (rather, a threat to say) imposed by the
biggies of the corporates flourishing in this garden
city.
Deadlines for the first phase have been set out.
Take a look at the Bangalore edition of Times of India for
more information on the details of the phase plans. The
developmental work has been given to Karnataka Land Army
Corporation and the deadline is December 15 for five roads,
January 15 for the next six roads and all the remaining by
January 31. And what more...truck traffic has been
restricted to a few hours during the working hours
especially on the Hosur road at the instant of Infosys
chief N.R.Narayana Murthy. The plan also includes shifting
of 40 bus stands from the junctions by October 15 and
introduction of what is known as signal synchronization and
intelligent traffic management has been approved for
adoption in the plan. Also the Outer Ring Road is supposed
to witness lane marking. Renovation of some of the existing
flyovers has been planned. Funding by the central
government is yet to be realized with the union Finance
minister Mr.P.Chidambaram promising to do so. There is
still a long way to go to make Bangalore a lovely place to
live in. This is still the first small step in the big
leap.
