The Times of India
Though fond of many news papers published in India- in English and many other
vernacular languages, I desire an intimacy only with a few-Times of India is one of
them. It’s a pleasure to go through it everyday along with the morning tea.
TOI as we call it with affection, it deserves
is published from all major cities of India with Head Office at Bombay which is fully
computerised and rarely misses the latest news. It has excellent news coverage.
Reports are not biased and the papers strictly adhere to strict principles and ethics.
So, the enlighten middle class who form the backbone of the nation patronise it in
preference to other papers.
With the advance of modern technology, they
have upgraded infrastructure. It has its own website www.indiatimes.com which caters
various services viz. on line shopping, booking flight and railway reservation, internet
banking, a space for advertising one own’s product, matrimonial correspondence,
various types of employment in corporate sector etc. The paper has internet polling
system on different topics, results of which are published in the next day. The Times of
India has developed a high degree of professionalism regarding presentation of news
in its column. News report are short, brief, well drafted with appropriate captions.
Readers can get a lot of information by going through news headlines only.
The entire paper has the following
section.
The most important part is editorial section. Editorial portion illustrates
independent views on various topics. Once in a week, editorial pages have column on
public grievances issue.
It has pages on both “Politics” and beyond
"Beyond Politics”.In “Beyond Politics” column, news such as “India the best place of
out sourcing for America”, “Ban on recent movie Fanna in Gujarat”, “More private
airlines are getting ready to take off” etc are published. These news have no direct link
with politics and so they are printed in “Beyond Politics” column of the news paper.
The “Times of India” has also pages on
“Business times” column along with stock market news which mainly cover Corporate
news such as company’s profit in last fiscal year, announcing dividend, Bonus share
issue, SEBI’S notice to investors, daily stock market price etc.
News papers have tremendous responsibility
for development of society. Since they are widely circulated, they can influence mass.
They should not resort to yellow journalism which severely harm the nation. They
should be bold, straight forward and should not even hesitate to criticise powerful
lobby if they find anything wrong in the society.
