Rape, Race, and Class Rips Duke University Hypnotizing the nation in its tale of alleged sexual misconduct- three of the
elite Duke University`s Lacrosse Players stand accused of rape. The alleged
perpetrators come from privileged backgrounds and the white community. While
their purported victim originated from the African Community. Incidentally, she
matriculates at the predominately African American University of North Carolina
Central. This institution lies across town from the renowned Duke University.
The legal team representing the purported perpetrators stated that forensic
materials revealed an absence of DNA matches with any of the accused to date. A
third individual appeared before a Durham, North Carolina Grand Jury recently in
this case. District Attorney Mike Nifong sought rape indictments against each
suspect. At the primary evidentiary inqury- the samples assembled did not match
the first two men accused of this alleged crime. District Attorney Michael
Nifong noted that- `The fact is that this case is proceeding the way a case
should proceed.` With the third purported perpetrator standing before the Durham
Grand Jury with a possible indictment lurching- a shroud cloakes the community.
As a matter of principle, no individual or persons should suffer through the
budsaw of the Criminal Justice System as an innocent person. The process should,
however, delineate between the innocent and the guilty. By the time the Judicial
Process concludes, hopefully everyone concerned in these deliberations and the
public can say with honesty that justice carried the day.
