Abstract for the article 'What drives Bangalore's young towards suicide?' - by Raziqueh Hussain under the column 'Focus'
It is 'life', the most precious priority for survival. Other factors are rather subsequent than obvious. Rich or poor prefer to stay alive through battles they come across. Rich spend abundant money in hospitals for their respective illnesses and the poor make it possible by some or other means. The main aspect is to stay alive and strive for the livelihood.
And there is a heavy layer of emotional contradiction to this vital factor. Attitude of many, young or middle aged or old, falling prey to their 'split-of-a-second' decision to commit suicide, is in the increasing fold. It is rather alarming!
Why should vitorious
people too resort to committing suicide? They have been successful in their respective deeds just because of their involvement and courage. They have been fearless in their expressive attitudes. Then where came the black hole in their so called conscience? There are people who live with hundreds of problems on day-to-day life and still proceed with will power and determination to come out of their ordeals.
The
recent data reveals that more men in Indian metro cities commit suicide than women. It is said that the major causes for their decision is due to chronic physical illness, alcoholism, drug consumption, financial bankruptcy and unemployment. For women it is due to conflicts, marital disharmony and frustration.
It is evident that the strength of mental attitude drops rapidly among certain people who live for the 'society' and absolutely not for themselves. In other words, it may be stated that these people either live or have lived basing on others' focus on 'them'.
It is all due to sudden wave of depression that
commands their minds and
hearts. One can easily come out of these sort of commands through meditation, finding ways to come out of their problems by positive thinking and cheerfully managing to share it with someone whom they feel much closer to their hearts.
There may be several research reports and analytical outputs. But it is all mere datas. Strong and purposeful counselling by nears and dears as they find distinctive symptoms of change of behaviour of the concerned alone can resolve these drastic steps. The basic need for avoiding such incidents is 'love' and 'care'. The way of life has practically become mechanical in the present conditions and they conveniently call it 'life style'. Living with luxuries is what they call as 'life style'. But alas! when life happens to face a pint of struggle or trouble, unable to withstand its pace and span, victims fall prey to their sudden thoughts and desire which results in ending their lives.
The psychological advancement is growing to its heights in the recent time and one can always get access to a hearing or counselling in any way. Impatience and faithlessness lead to ignore any possible means that can rescue them away from the drastic thought. They rather fail to realize that they can get support from somewhere or from their own circle of family and friends.
Life is a path and no one knows where it ends. Let us go on and on and see the end with lights and brights. Let us not break our journey in the midway when it is dark. There is always light after dark. Darkness is just a patch that is a contemporary speed breaker. Road is smoother than expected from that moment. And the road is full of lights!
