Quit India: Foreign faces of desi fashion
Do we Indians know more than crying and complaining? When our models grab an overseas modeling assignment, bejewel the international ramp, adorn the apparels of Donna Karen and Gucci, are applauded for the dusky complexion or are featured in the elite international magazines like vogue, we don’t spare any media form...its everywhere on print, voice and screen. Suddenly anyone and everyone is predicting of the imminent glorious days of Indian fashion, and the globalization of fashion industry.
Now picture this ,just a few days after that few desi adds feature FIRANGI models and the same set of people deploying same media to demonstrate AMGREZO BHARAT CHODO andolan… our sophisticated and cultured high class models began slandering about the skin show off by FIRANGS. Why can’t we accept challenges and healthy competition? Or we believe in globalization. Equal opportunities and such related terms only according to convenience? As Ankit Mehta, senior client service manager of a model management company, which has worked with foreign models says, "It's the age of globalisation. Models from foreign countries are doing well in India. Even our models are travelling to countries like China, Japan and even Europe. I think it’s a win-win situation for both."
