Peking University bans campus tourism
As one of the most reputable and internationally well-recognised higher learning institution, Peking University has decided to close its doors to the large number of groups organised by tour companies in order to turn the place from an increasingly popular tourist attraction back into a university campus since the occurrences of busload tourists, particularly those parents or even grandparents showing children around the campus hoping their kids could get into the elite university, have became way too frequent and out of control. However, individual visitors and high school students organised by educational institutions could still enjoy the sights of within the prestigious university as long as the necessary permission has been secured from the institute at least 3 days in advance. This move has generated heated debates among not only the students and staff at Peking University, but also professors from other higher learning organisations, media as well as many Chinese people from all walks of life.
