College graduates on way to voluntary service
OnJuly 26,925 college graduates from provinces of Sichuan Liaonig and Zhejiang were present at a ceremony witnessing their commitment to serving China’s underdeveloped areas in western China. After the ceremony, they set out to 49 counties in Sichuan to fulfill voluntary service of one to two years as teachers, doctors and social workers. This is one part of China’s “Go West” campaign. After finishing the service, the college students will be benefited in their future work in government departments and in postgraduate entrance examination. The number of registered college students who volunteer to work in remote rural areas in Sichuan Province tops the national list for four consecutive years. This year altogether 5,879 students in Sichuan enrolled to participate in this voluntary service.
