GERMANY; THE COUNTRY OF PIRACY. Piracy is the unauthorized duplication of an original recording for commercial gain without the consent of the rights owner. I am amazed, by the amount of people I keep meeting in Germany, who does not seem to share the same view about copying DVD´s, downloading computer programs and other tools off the internet. In all the houses and apartments that I have visited, had at least one illegal copy of a DVD or CD. When speaking to people and telling them it´s wrong, the response is always the same,"I know, but... "They give more than a hundred reasons why they cannot buy DVD´s, CD´s or tools they need for their computers, yet they make so much money from what they do with all these illegal programs and softwares. I am certain, that more than half of those who are attending an Tertiary institution, has not one legal copy of a computer program or software that is needed for their areas of studies.University and college students are some of those people that chooses to download tools and use them in projects even though, they get affordable discounts on computer programs and relative things as students.
Companies are hiring people for many different kinds of jobs that has to be done by computers and never took the time to investigate if whether the tools are from a licensed user of not. Can that be good for a company? As a Christian country, that knows the law against piracy I expected a more positive response from all that I have spoken to. As a rich country, that can afford more than what is needed, should not have thieves roaming about on the internet and stealing from other people. Would you walk into a store and steal a CD, DVD or something for your computer? of course not! How would you feel if you have worked so hard to create something unique and someone keep stealing it each time you think you can earn some money from it? I am sure it would not be a good feeling. We should learn to appreciate other peoples work and spend money to buy what we want. Piracy is stealing, its against the law and its wrong.
