Soorat Tops in Cyber Crimes . Soorat tops in cyber crimes. According to N.C.R.B report maximum cyber crimes are committed in Gujarat, and in Gujarat maximum cyber crimes are committed in Soorat. What is Soorat famous for ? For destructive floods, hub of textile trading, glitter of diamonds, delicious food and now ...cyber crimes. If recent statistics of National Crime Records Bureau i.e.N.C.R.B.is to be trusted then Gujarat figures on top of the cyber crime category and Soorat tops in Gujarat. As a result of this current analysis Soorat police and information technology professionals are baffled. According to N.C.R.B. cyber crime comprises of illegitimate or illegal use of computer, internet or its related product. Although there is special provision for these crimes under Information Technology Rules 2000, but the police can register cases under different sections of Indian Penal Code. If a document or a professional information is manupulated through some electronic product, then case is registered under sections 59 and 186 of Indian Penal Code for cheating. According to 2005 N.R.C.B. statistics 481 crimes were registered in the whole country, out of which 151 were registered in Gujarat alone. Soorat accounted for 146 of those which were registered in Gujarat. The statistics reveal some interesting facts also.
Maximum arrests, related to cyber crimes, took place in Gujarat and in Soorat. Out of total arrests of 551, 162 arrest were made in Gujarat and out of these 134 arrests were made in Soorat. Also, the youngest criminal under the age group of 18 years and oldest criminal above 60 years of age were taken into custody in Gujarat. N.R.C.B.is an independent body analysing statistics released by police stations all over the country. According to Mr Sudhir Sinha, Police Commissioner of Soorat the police is very active in registering crimes related not only to violations of provisions of information technology but also due to the use of computer and other ultra modern tools of information technology revolution. The cases are registered not only under IT rules but also under IPC as police find it easy to investigate cases registered under IPC.and cases are decided quickly. As such the use of information technology is more in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Bangalore but the recent statistics has surprised even the IT professionals also
