Poetry News

Article Summary   by:SM THOMPSON
ª

I received my copy of Poetry News thrown through the mail box without a moment's
hesitation.
I picked up the paper with the usual information on artists, poets, and writers,
telling all about the art of successful writing.
Dont we all love to lie back and enjoy the success of our endeavours.
What can you imagine would take you beyond the frontiers of artistic and
poetic success but according to PN ... would be the BBC who in their
almighty magnificence actually fund poets.

I was surprised to note this. Recently I have been approached to find
on the spot funding in this country for students of English. Well, as you
can imagine, I am used to that and found upfront funding for the student
in question in London .... he no longer worries himself about how to
relate to life in England.

However, when it came to my turn, I was bailed out by the Poetry
Society and they offered the information to me and all other poets
that the BBC actually funds Poets in the UK. Well, strike me down
as a tiger lily.

I didnt waste a moment and got pen to paper and sent off a gold
Christmas card to the BBC requesting funding as a UK resident
Poet, urgently.

I will keep you posted!

Belfast and its Queens University is well and thriving and
it centres the poetic input and output around the
Seamus Heaney Poetry Centre ... around that part of the
location you will find book shops and other suitable
venues for the necessry book signings, selling, and
marketing of poetic outpourings.

Great stuff ... happy reading ...
