Do you feel worried, overwhelmed or nervous as the board exams are drawing near? Everyone experiences examination stresses, needless to say, coping with heightened emotions is extremely essential. Some students do remarkably well during pressure, whereas others fail to concentrate and fall victim to depression. In the same way parents too feel anxious and stressed. Of the many reasons increased competition in every pace of life has contributed greatly to stress amongst students. Today students race for limited number of seats that amplifies the pressure of competition. They may be alarmed due to poor and faulty preparations, additionally high parental expectations may add fuel to the fire. As the reason for stress and anxiety differs from child to child, the methods implemented to overcome pressure should be worked accordingly. Early warning symptoms include headache and stomach cramps.Evolve coping mechanism- Mild stress may in fact help the student to stay alert, attentive and focused however too much worry may lead to distress. To cope better follow the following tips: Always maintain positive attitude. Early preparations for examinations are pre-requisite. Prepare a realistic study schedule and work accordingly. A span of about 4-5 weeks should be left before examination for final revisions. Slight changes could be made in the schedule if extremely necessary. Work out sample question papers, in case of any queries; clarify them by your subject teachers. Even if you fail to make to top institutions don’t be depressed, there are various other alternatives available.Keep aspirations realistic- Both parents and teachers should support their children and a day before exam should be kept for revision.
Peeping over new material may only amplify your anxiety.Sleep over your worries-
At least seven hrs of night sleep is fundamental. Some students prefer to study late hrs due to calm milieu and sleep during the day. As the examinations are held during day, it hampers the alertness and effectiveness of your kid during exams. Therefore, at least month before the scheduled exam date return to your normal body clock hrs i.e., during day-time. Take 5-15 minutes of break every couple of hrs. Take extreme care of your fitness, as you cannot afford to fall sick during these crucial days. So ensure enough sleep and eat sensibly. At the same time care should be taken by the parents to maintain a peaceful environment for their studies.
Parental support must
- Parents should be cooperative and encourage their children for better performance. If necessary talk with them to overcome any kind of problem, however if anxiety is acute, go for professional help. Be aware not to burden your children with unrealistic expectations. Relaxation the best policy
- Relaxation is equally important, take deep breaths whey you feel restless. Arrive beforehand on the day of examination, well prepared with all required material. During exam time, read the questions, understand them and answer wisely. First answer those questions which you new well.
