OIL-FOR-FOOD-SCAM

Corruption in the U.N. has been in news for a long time now. In fact, I never considered the U.N. as an institution, much less an international organization. Instead, I considered it a poodle – like Tony Blair being a poodle of George Bush – of U.S. imperialism. Hence, I did not care a hoot for corruption in the U.N. other than U.N. itself as a corruption of the U.S.

And here comes the news vindicating my stance. That is the Oil For Food Scam of the U.N. and some of its member countries after the occupation of Iraq by the U.S. and its pseudo-allies.

My concern is about India, my country. Here, one old man, India’s External Affairs Minister or Foreign Minister Natwar Singh was reported by a Volcker Committee about his involvement in The Oil For Food Scam.

I had seen this old man Natwar – when he was not as old as now - in the India Office Library, London, when he was out of power. The Jeeves in the IOL did not care much for him, but for his three-piece suit. I was in simple tweed, with no tie, and whatnot and they cared much less for me!

Natwar never inspired me either in London or in India. After the death of E.M.S. Namboothiripad, the head comrade of India with whom the pseudo tale comrade N. Ram, editor-in-chief of the Frontline , that pseudo Leftist magazine from India, had Natwar as a columnist. I thought that was the nadir of Indian journalism, and stopped reading the Frontline , yet subscribing to it.

After the Volcker Committee report became a public issue, I watched Natwar squirming before TV interviewers. He made a fool of an ass himself, and spilled the beans. By that time N. Ram, the master-dumper, had also dumped him.

Natwar is now India’s Minister without Portfolio, meaning a Minister at large; and Ram is driving more nails on the coffin on the Kasturi and Sons, the establishment of which he is a share-holder, and which brings out the Frontline , and The Hindu .

The latest report on Natwar in The Indian Express , is as revealed by India's envoy to Croatia, Aniel Mathrani.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s Prime Minister, has assured Indian Parliament that he will get to the root of the issue. The problem of all problems is the U.N. has no roots but only branches - of U.S. imperialism. As we all know, it is easy to get to the bottom of branches, and remove them, when found inconvenient to have them.

Wait and watch how the U.S. does it, and how India succumbs to it.
