CORNERED NATWAR DOES A MANGAL PANDEY

As Natwar has of late been in the news in the context of the Oil-for-Food scam of the U.N., I shall not start with him. The less familiar character is Mangal Pandey, who according to the Northies of India was the freedom fighter, who took on the British and was hanged. Mangal Pandey is also a recent Hindi movie, which I believe, is doing well. About the move there was quiz on the website C2W.com in which I participated.

While on this abstract of a yet unfolding investigation report, let me say, “Hats off” to The Indian Express, of which once upon a time I was an inconsequential part. Despite the absence of the state-of-the-art high-tech unlike its rivals The Hindu in the South, and the Times of India in the West and North, the Express is still the first stealer, as it used to be, in this case, of NEWS.

I had written an abstract about the grinning Natwar Singh which is on this website.

Natwar’s son, an MLA, and a pain-in-the-neck for Natwar and for the Congress Party, has now added fuel to the fire, and to the agony of Natwar and the Congress Party.

Going by the latest revelations, as disclosed by The Indian Express, Natwar and his son were among the many that benefited from the Oil-for-Food Scam of the U.N. in Iraq, when a beleaguered Saddam Hussein was allowed to leap out his stuff in return for food items or their equivalents.

Knowing the U.N. and the involvement of Kofi Annan’s son in the scam, the level of corruption in the U.N. and the level of exploitation of the natural resources of Iraq by the U.S. through the U.N. should not come as a surprise.

My concern is about the immediate fallout for India. It is possible that India’s present political stability at the Centre - thanks to an able, efficient, and selfless Prime Minister, and an even more able, efficient, and selfless Sonia Gandhi who made Singh India’s Prime Minister – is likely to be jettisoned by the imperialist powers, especially the U.S. using a Natwar Singh, whether he was guilty or not. Even if he were guilty, the matter should be settled within India by showing Singh the door to political wilderness.

But my worry is, the national Opposition, the BJP, which is desperate to unseat the UPA government at the Centre to bring back its Hindu Rashtra, will be back to its political mischief in a more crude and cruel, albeit high-tech form. That will be the loss of India and the gain of the U.S.!!
