Corruption

These days we hear much of the hue and cry about widespread corruption in India and abroad. The recent eruptions of outrage among masses about corruption in India and some arab countries shows that general public is fedup with corruption. But do we know, What corruption actually is? Does it include only taking bribes and kickbacks to get a particular work done or for getting a favour? Does this mean getting the work done according to one’s whims only?I don’t think it is so. Corruption is basically favouring the wrong thing or wrongdoers and discouraging the right thing for personal gains and favours.

Corruption is present in every sphere of our lives. Starting right from our home if we are staying in a joint family, we will preferably favour our real brother and sister rather than our cousin brother and sister, knowing very well in our minds who is right and who is wrong. When we grow up we go to school, again we have different attitude towards our friends and those who are not our friends. Sometimes even mothers also favour a child who has done a wrong work. So, favourtism and bias attitudes are very much a part of corruption.

Before condemning someone else, we need to cleanse our minds first. We need to introspect that if we were in their place how would we have performed?Everybody likes easy money, comfort and luxuries. We need to think first how would we be behaving if we were in position of power . Had we fallen prey to easy money? If everybody behaves in a just and right manner, think how would the world be? Everybody would feel happy and wanted, the work environment in the office or workplace would be such that employees would love to come to their workplace. It would be peace and prosperity everywhere. Nobody will be helpless or starved.
