It has been major lapse
on the part of the present Badal Government for
not having any sort of check on the ongoing drug trafficking in the various
regions of Punjab. Why the present concerned authorities are still not serious
to curb this ongoing drug menace in our State? It seems the present political
setup of Punjab is not supportive towards wiping out drug menace from Punjab,
as they have totally neglected this serious issue for the last more than four
years.
Whereas the drug addiction in Punjab
has today reached at an alarming stage and our State
is facing the peril of drug trafficking, where the drugs have already
jeopardized all age groups, from school going children to old age
particularly in the rural areas of the region. Its
unfortunate to witness the ongoing consumption of poppy husk, opium,
synthetic drugs and smack by majority of college –
university students all around the region. The cause of concern is the
trend of smack which is increasing very fast amongst the younger generation in
urban areas these days. The synthetic drugs available at chemist shops is also
very harmful and the drug use has already intimately
related to crime and misconduct, at all levels. As these range from criminal
acts like stealing from one’s own house to team attempts at robberies for want
of money to maintain the constant supply of drugs.
Today a consistent message, drug use is
wrong, dangerous and intolerable should be widely propagated and reinforced
through strong disciplinary measure by the support of
community in creating an anti-drug social environment. Being the natives of
Punjab, it should be a part
of our working schedule that society should be educated about the ill-effects of
drug abuse through various social organizations, mass media, NGOs and even
through religious bodies, where today majority percent of its rural household
has atleast one drug addict. Drugs have the potential to threaten
the life of a people of Punjab and taking away our youth from socially useful
and productive work, disrupting academic work, shattering families increasing
crime overburdening social service agencies.
The
present ruling alliance of Punjab has virtually failed to check on the enforcing
agencies to drastically reduce availability of illicit drugs and prevent
distribution network, clinics may detoxify large number of addicts and moreover
they have never emphasized on the State Government educational institutions need
to guide their pupils how to get rid of this social evil which may ruin future
of the upcoming youth of Punjab to ashes.
