Somalia, a small country located on the Gulf of Aden in Africa is the place where pirates evolved.These piraes are originally fishermen who are not able to fish these days.The reason behind this is the death of the fishes due to dumping of oil and toxic material into the Mediterranean Sea by Italy and Germany.
These Somalian pirates have risen after the downfall of the Islamic Government in Somalia. The U.N. has tried to establish a new government but remains unsuccessful till now. It has only controlled ‘Mogadishu’ , the capital of Somalia. The pirates capture and hijack any ship passing from the Gulf of Aden and demand a ransom for it.
Due to this , the ships have to take a longer route. They have to go from the Cape of Good Hope instead of Suez Canal. The whole world is affected by these pirates but the main countries affected are Egypt, Djibouti and Yemen. Egypt because it controls the Suez Canal and ships have to pay taxes passing through it. But due to rise in piracy, ships donot pass from the Suez Canal anymore. This has lead to downfall of Egypt’s economy. Djibouti and Yemen are the countries where these pirates have established their bases.
The ‘Somalian Pirates’ actually call themselves as protectors as they are guarding their water from toxic wastes. The coastguards of Egypt and other countries are trying to capture these pirates. But for this political stability is necessary in Somalia.
