Does being a part of a representative democracy mean that we abdicate our freedom to make our choice in the name of all good.?
Democracy means freedom . One might than argue that a government should allow people to act according to their own free will. but there are tow sides to every cion . Absolute independence might not lead to any thing productive in an interdependent society . There needs to be a basic framework of rules and guidelines to which all participents in that society agree to.
According to Hobbs , human nature is such that if there were no rules or a law enforcing institution in the government , it would be a war of every man against every man . The government regulates the activities of individuals in a manner such that the freedom guarenteed by damocracy to every body is not infringed upon by the selfish act of law.
Apart fromthe protectoin of peoples , some people feel that government inteference in their private lives is not acceptable. System such as welfere and progresive taxes do not seem quite right .
