Introducing a new perception of the
universe would not be as easy as eating a piece of hamburger when the old one has taken the mainstream for hundreds of year. Copernicus was facing many rejections since he announced that the sun is centre of solar system instead of the earth. So do Einstein who stands opposite to the mainstream of Newtonian by his theory of
relativity. Then Russell, through his book titled The ABC of Relativity, come to explain Einstein’s theory by simple-composed sentences thus even one who does not have strong background in
physics shall understand without a quite hard effort.
Before entering the main topic about relativity, this book of Russell brings reader back in time exploring the history of physics science. Many theories popped-up along the history empowering each other shaping mosaic of physics science well known as Newtonian physics. Newton has lead the people learn that mass and force are absolute matters hence its principles applicable everywhere in the universe. This
idea reasonably ends on conclusion that the universe is predictable.
The mosaic stay undisturbed until Einstein came to break it in pieces. He stated that nothing is absolute thus none could predict the universe. Any object or phenomena in the universe are relative depends on the observers. When you are
going to a gas station, you supposed to accept the other way to say that gas station is going to you. Both statement is true depend on how and where the observer observing.
Ironically, as theory of relativity is one of among phenomena in the universe, it might not enjoyed immunity from relativity principle as well. Indeed scientist responsible to dig and test it furthermore to another discovery which either strengthening or eliminating the relativity theory itself. The universe is too deep to be revealed by single scientist.
Russell also teaches reader that human being has enjoyed much knowledge but still it is not suffice to reveal the great secret of the universe yet. However, this insufficient knowledge has assisted people to manage the world by what we are pretending today as hi-end technology.
