Jabez: His Bold Prayer Made Him known.

Book Summary   by:may rona     Original Author: Holy Bible
ª

He was unknown, there was no account of his origin or any mentioned of his direct ancestors, but his bold and humble prayer has put him in a stature as one worthy of greatness. First, the scripture regarded him as more honorable than his brother. The word honorable conveys a meaning of impressive, beyond reproach and somebody who is holding a respectable position in the land. yet his mother had named him Jabez since she gave birth to him in pain. As the name implies, Jabez may have originated fromt the jumbled word of ah-tzav which in Hebrew word meaning anguish. His mother may have sufferred a distressful condition during the time of his birth. But despite those unhealthful cincrumstances during his childhood years, he remained undaunted and largely dependent on the Lord''s mercy, perhaps one of the reason why God considered him an honorable man. For a faithful man of God as he is, he has all the boldness to cry on the Lord and declared his prayer like "Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my territory, Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." As I pondered on the verse, I just can awe in admiration how Jabez could have asked from God such an overwhelming blessing as casual as it was.
It can be likened to a simple boy wishing for a brand new luxury car. And God granted his request. His prayer may sound ambitious, but granting him as an honorable man, he may only be asking for a bigger share of what God has promise the people of Israel. For he is not a man of greed and awful ambition as shown by his good countenance as a man of God when he also asked God to be with him and seek His continues guidance and protection that he may no longer experience that dreadful circumtances in his life. His hope was dependent on God. While his life was just a passing mentioned in two verses of 1Chronicle 4:9-10 and though how brief the description of his life and character, yet it has touched the heart of many believers so that one could take his prayer as an example of how God answer a prayer of a faithful man.
