Mumbai is my most favorite city of my country. The Mumbai (Bombay) is also called the "City of Dreams". Why and when this synonym did got linked with the city. No buddy knows.
Well, but Mumbai is also vital to India for other reasons too. It is the economic Capital of India. Unlike New York city of state, Singapore or be it Shanghai ,which to some point have clear the meaning of a Business District with their rising buildings and what nots...Mumbai is absolutely not in contention.
So what makes Mumbai "City of Dreams" for a general man? For one, if someone belongs to the service class he won’t be able to stay inside the City confines and would be staying in some Sub-urb locale. If he manages to find a position inside the City then either the place would be as large as his Coffin or else, if he manages to get a bigger place then he would be paying half or even more of his income towards rent out. The city is like a cone-shaped tool. Everyday citizens travel from a lot of suburban places to the South of the City for work. And they always take the Local Trains that take them from North to South of Mumbai. One can visualize the dilemma of the passengers in the trains during Office days.
Life in Mumbai is hard-hitting and if you are from any other place in India or in World you would find it hard. True the city is very sparkling and gives you options in life. But question to be asked is what happens when people don’t see Mumbai as a place for employment.
