After the death of Mumtaz Mahal, the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the world famous tomb Taj Mahal in memory of his beloved wife.
It is an architectural marvel and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Taj Mahal is a symbol of love expressed by a husband for his wife.
The delicate design of the monument is a true instance of the best craftsmanship of the world. It took seventeen year to build this wonder. The design of Taj Mahal is a combination of Hindu, Persian and earlier Mughal architecture. The other Mughal tombs have great influence on the architecture of Taj Mahal.
But instead of red sand stone this tomb was built by white marble and semi precious stones that made it different from all other Mughal architecture. Hindu craftsmen, sculptors and stonecutters were fully used for building this monument.
Taj Mahal is decorated with a beautiful Mughal garden called Charbagh. Three sides of the tomb are surrounded by specially designed red sandstone wall.

Another famous mausoleum in Agra is Itimad- ud- Daulah tomb. This tomb is built on the memory of Jahangir's chief minister Itimad- ud- Daulah. It is built by his daughter Nur Jahan on the banks of river Jamuna.
