Driving Tips for Foreigner in Singapore

Vehicle Entry Permit Scheme (VEP) Foreign-registered cars on motorcycles are required to have a valid VEP whilst in Singapore. VEP fee is SGD30 per day. You do not have to pay VEP fees on Saturdays, Sundays, and all Singapore Public Holidays. Payments are made via Autopass Card.

Autopass Card : A stored value smart card that can be bought at land checkpoints at SGD10.This card will be used for payments of VEP fees and/or toll charges and/or ERP fees at the Singapore land checkpoints.

Electronic Road Pricing Scheme (ERP) : ERP scheme is an automated road pricing system designed to keep Singapore's roads smooth flowing. It is based on the principle of charging motorists when they travel on heavily used roads during peak hours. All vehicle using these roads are required to pay ERP charges during these hours. There are no charges on weekends and public holidays. For foreign-registered vehicles, the options to pay the ERP charges are :

Option 1 :
Using an In-Vehicle Unit (IU) and a CashCard (Stored Value Card). The IU automatically deducts the ERP charges from CashCard each time the vehicle passes through an ERP gantry. Installation of a permanent IU costs SGD150. A temporary IU can be rented at SGD5 a day (minimum 2 days) with a deposit of SGD120.

Option 2 :
Payment of a fixed ERP fee of SGD10 a day no matter how many times the vehicle passes through an ERP gantry. The ERP system automatically detects a foreign-registered car without an IU and SGD$10 will be registered for the day. Payments are made via Autopass Card.

Toll Charges : Toll charges are calculated on a per trip basis. You have to pay toll charges on arrival and departure from Tuas Checkpoint but only on departure at Woodlands Checkpoint. Payments are made via Autopass Card.
