Gokarna, meaning Cow’s Ear, is a beautiful place in Karnataka, which is famous for its pristine beaches that attract thousands of visitors every year, including many foreigners as well as Indians. It is also famous as a pilgrimage spot. Gokarna is also known for being a hippie paradise, and you can often find people in hammocks, strumming guitars.
If you’re on a budget and visiting Gokarna, don’t worry as you can find places where you won’t have to compromise on quality even if you don’t have too much to spend. Many bed and breakfasts are available where you can sleep comfortably, wake up to a warm breakfast, and then take off on your own to explore.
If you feel like something that’s more like home, you can try Hari Priya Residency, a Bed and Breakfast run by friendly people who will do anything to help you. The place is amazingly comfortable, and the tagline ‘Home away from Home’ is definitely true, as they treat you like their own family. I have personally been here, and can vouch for their hospitality, and the fact that your stay will be comfortable and relaxing. You won’t have to break the bank to stay here for a few nights, and you’ll be able to take in the sights and sounds in Gokarna as well.
Gokarna International is another hotel you should look at if you’re on a budget, as you can negotiate the costs for the rooms, especially if you’re considering staying more than just a couple of nights, and this works out to great value for money. The hotel is not the cleanest, but for those on a budget it will work well. You can get an AC room here for around Rs 800.
