Electric car travels record 1,000 km on single charge
Electric car could be a replacement for conventional cars run on fossil fuel (Hydrocarbon). Though the car is already on the road for sometimes, yet it has its own drawbacks compare to common internal combustion engine cars.
An electric motor is used in the electric car for propulsion unlike the internal combustion engines in the conventional cars. The other significant disadvantage of the electric car is poor range between charges. Hence for long journeys, electric car is not a suitable option at the moment. A normal car can run almost 800 to 1000 kilometers on full tank of petrol or diesel; whereas an electric car can go only a fraction of that making it an unviable option for long distances.
The ECs are also known as Battery electric vehicles (BEV) that in spite of giving good acceleration and relatively top speed, the car cannot run on one charge a long distance. Hence, the car has remained a local choice up till now.
The recent news of an electric car running for over 27 hours covering a distance of 1000 kilometers has raised the hope of one day replacing the conventional cars.
Sanyo, a Japanese company created a special lithium ion battery that was fixed on a electric car called Mira EV, which drove around a car racing course in Shimotsuma for 27.5 hours non-stop covering a precise distance of 1003 kilometers on one charge, reported The Daily Telegraph. To complete this long travel experiment, 17 different people drove the car. The experiment was arranged by the Japan Electric Vehicles Club that has the intention of sending the request to Guinness World Records to include this feat of the longest distance covered by an electric car, revealed Japanese media.
In the wake of fierce competition of making viable electric cars, this experiment is said to have come at an appropriate time. Being environment friendly, electric cars could make a significant difference in our day to day life.
It can be recalled that the earlier record of long distance for an electric car was 555.5 kilometers achieved in last November by the same Japanese Organization.
