Travellers of the whole world, who look for very old-fashioned atmosphere (but not too old: just of the last 2 centuries) are obliged to have a stop in Vienna.
Vienna (Wien) is the capital city of Austria, it's located in the heart of Europe and it's one of the most charming and particular cities of the old continent.
The city can vant a very prestigious past; hence the end of the first world war, it was the capital city of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and still it conserves the artistic and cultural heritage that was produced and accumulated there in such glorious period. Being in that geographic position, Vienna could compete with Paris as centre of all the cultural modern new trends. Important composers took there their residence; the most inventive modern painters and graphic artists elected Vienna as the capital city of the modernism; we can just think about Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Paul Klee, and many others. Sigmund Freud worked and lived there, and the neurotic atmosphere of the city inspired him to develop his research on psychoanalysis, and to formulate his theory about connections between dreams and subconscious.
Actually, in Vienna we still nowadays can find traces of such variety of cultural dynamism.
The architecture, which shows interesting results of baroque and neoclassical, but also gothic and rococo', testifies the same dynamism.
We can even mention that the austrian people are friendly and curious towards all the strangers which transit by there. After the second world war, Vienne became a destination for many exiled intellectuals of the eastern world; many of those who were not accorded to Tito's Jugoslava or Soviet Union, could find a warm and welcoming place to set a new life.
So, this city that still nowadays people define as "the capital at waltz step" has renewed itself and still keep to renew. Romantic travellers will find here many little corners, many cafes with warm atmosphere, in order to share good time in front of a cup of tea or coffee.
The things to visit are too many to mention. So, we can just suggest to have a walk around, and everyone will be impressed by the amount of things to see, and to know about!
