Talking Turkey: Chicago Tribune:

Article Review   by:SM THOMPSON

The writer is full of beans and enthusiastic about shopping in Istanbul and its oldest market
The Grand Bazaar and I must admit I share the writer's enthusiasm as I to have shopped at
Istanbul's Grand Bazaar ... . on Sunday (Whatever happened my friends say .. to .. never on a Sunday!)
well it was Sunday and I had my afternoon off and together with my student we set foot towards
this world famous and highly engaging Turkish market. But lets read again the writer from the
Chicago Tribune and the breakdown is as follows:

First:
Rule of shopping ...... ask the PRICE!

Second
Rule:
Walkaway

Third
Rule:
Never stop negotiating!

so the writer from the Chicago Tribune continues his views as follows:

They had a Manhatten guy who had negotiated his way through countless Asian markets who
did the talking and got the price right, got the price down (my student did the talking and I got a ladies green shirt for 5 British pounds and same equivalent in Turkish lira).

But the Salesman said "I am very tired today" (a pertinent remark - no doubt and not to be ignored) the
flashback to the white marble floor of the Bazaar is evocative of personal experience at Istanbul's oldest shopping market!

Later on that same year my two young friends from Paris and England went shopping from Edirne and I think they travelled by bus to Istanbul and returned with a lot of goodies including a leather jcket - very fetching!

Another product that is cheap at the Grand Bazaar is Chanel No 5 perfume but I had no time to stop off for luxury items and bought only the essentials out of my salary so its good to reflect on the good times at Istanbul's most famous market!

The idea of shopping in such a hot sticky day in my case left its mark and we settled for a quick evening meal at one of the famous restaurants in that location of Istanbul and it afforded us some relaxation as I had to work the
next day and was keen to make the most of any free time I had in Istanbul! Hard work pays UP!
