Article Review   by:SM THOMPSON

EDIRNE has been described as a diamond that has not been shaped and its a diamond that has not been shaped - it is in western Turkey and its facets include a mosque and wrestling; approximatelly 2 million tourists visited
Edirne in 2O11 and in 2O12 the hope is that 3 million will top the previous record.

33 million tourists are expected to visit Turkey according to the Tourism minister - E Gunay and the
revenue is - TL 55.1 billion in 2O11 .. 4.3 per cent of GDP.

Edirne is 225 kilometres from Istanbul and is has a cultural heritage that is rich in history and the focus
is on the 16th century mosque and a wrestling match attraction. According to UNESCO these attractions
are linked with identity.

Figures expected to increase by 1.7 per cent in 2O12 from 2O12 to 2O22 revenue is expected to be
TL 74-46m : the Council said: There is a London based world travel and tourism council referred to in
this connection .... and the connection with the Ottoman Empire is reinforced in this blog as Edirne prides itself in monuments and has a rich history.

Edirne has been described as - a diamond that has not been shaped ... and the view is that we want it to be shaped and we need scuptures.

I had the privelege of working in Edirne many years ago but as a busy teacher and writer I did not step outside school as much as a tourist might as my students were there and my time was given over to work however on the drive to and from Istanbul I was captivated by the beauty of the scenery and I remember huge vistas of open space and a clear blue sky overhead which seemed to go on endlessly and ceaselessly into a fabled blue yonder and I was indeed impressed by the history and culture of Edirne!

But Turkey hs many cities which total 581 so its a large canvas to fill and I am grateful to the Tourist board for filling in the figures and the data necessary to get one's foot in the door back to Edirne .. thanks Mate!
