Personal Experience Summary   by:SM THOMPSON
ª

Anthony Howard died at 76 on Sunday in London   after a short illness ... He was the Editor of The New Statesman and The Listener.  He had retired from full time Journalism but he was a regular guest on political television programmes.  His Speciality was the history of the Labour Party.  He started as a political journalist but had trained as a barrister and worked for the Manchester Guardian and the Sunday Times and The Observer.

He did edit the New Statesman - 1972-1978 and commented on Lord Mandelson's Diaries
as follows /he was the demon King of British political pantomime/.

I have often listened and seen Anthony Howard during these years referred to online The Telegraph and I must admit I have sometimes at the University Libraries I belong to read some articles in the New Statesman.  And for years I have subscribed to The Sunday Times, The Guardian, and The Observer as a regular reader from as far back as 1966 and even today I walked deep into the snow and ice in Hampshire to go to the local shop and buy a newspaper.  Obituary: Anthony Howard Journalist died at 76 after a short illness on Sunday in London!
