I am writing since relatively early age and I went through different styles and topics in my career. I was writing, for newspapers, magazines, news agencies, radio and TV. When I was writing in Ukraine - I could never get paid enough, always bee struggling artist, so I thought it would be better in Canada. Although i wasn't. First my job in journalism for local Ukrainian media paid next to nothing. Then I had jobs that paid well or not so well, but eventually I discovered, that there is the way to make good money on writing.
Interesting thing - you may have nothing to do on the topic you writing in. One time I was writing article on the state of the building of old theatre in Lviv, Ukraine, so h I had to do a lot of research. I had to talk to the city officials, fire fighters, architects, theatre officials as Manager, Art director, Director and bunch of other people. I did not write abut architecture before, so it was a bit of a challenge, but after all,I am a journalist, and as they say - we suppose to know a bit about everything.
Eventually I spoke also with some actor and theatre critics, which wasn't totally necessary, but in result I had written an article that won quite a few local journalism awards, including "Article of the week", "Article of the month", and (that I totally did not expected), theatre critics award of the month. The point is - I did not write theatre critics or theatre reviews before, but sure, I wrote quite a number of those after.
Another encounter happened in Toronto when I had to writ medical student's article on Alzeimers decease. Again, I am not a doctor, but there's so much of research published on internet that I had no problem to accomplish my task just by researching those articles and gathering and organizing all information I fished online in the student thesis. As far as I know - that particular student was marked "A".
Now to writing online - everyone of us needs to do some research in order not to be ripped by scamers and be able to make good buck by writing for blogs or other writing web sites. It took me a lot f time to figure out where to look for those writing sites where yo can make good money and I did not figured it quite yet. All I can tell you: If you encounter that kind of sites - watch out. First, some of them thinking that you can work for nothing, offering you $5 for 500 words article. In this case you would spend a year to pay your monthly expenses. If the site that offers writing jobs states that it is free at first and then it throws at you some sort of prime membership that costs $ 100 and if you want to stay for free - you would not be able to get any jobs... Obviously - it is scam. Stay away from it. Just recently I encountered one UK web site, that claimed it was free first, but then it suddenly went asking you to pay something around $100 for premium membership. Another thing about those sites - when you are trying to close the window it always asks you if yo are sure that you want to leave this page. At that point you already do not have a doubt it is scam!
I want to hear about your experience as a freelance writer and what sites are working for you. How much is the max that you have been able to make per day?
Thank you for responce.
