The world is talking a lot about the month of Ramadan and I get a lot of blogs from the Turkish digest
which is now involved in a discussion on Ramadan as in Turkey the fasting rules for the world of
the Muslim still apply but according to the Turkish digest the rules are somewhat relaxed in
comparison to what they have been in the past. I have been in Turkey during Ramadan and I
noticed as a British Lecturer that the rules were fairly strict and that my colleagues who were
Turkish were all observing Ramadan and had to fit in with the fasting requirements of that
Ramadan occasion. But in as much as I am regarded as a Christian I did take recogniton of the Muslim
Fasting and joined in with it but then as a Non Muslim I was left off so to write and only joined in
with the spirit of it all rather than literally. However, the Muslims in the UK are evidence in person
on the streets on Friday and I have attended and been invited to go to the Muslim Centres in
Southampton which I have done by way of the Multi Faith and Non Faith Program on the Peace
Walk days but since the riots and disturbances took over a lot of that has changed and the
word is that the cuts from the Government have affected the funding of a lot of the activities
hitherto entered into in the main here in Southampton: Thanks Turkish Digest!
