At this time of year leading up to Christmas the English Pen Bulletin is delighted to announce that
Margaret Drabble has won The Golden Pen award for 2O11 and the President who is Gillian Slova is
delighted that Margaret Drabble is going to join the list and the list of previous winners of the
Golden Pen award as follows:
Salman Rushdie
JG Ballard
Josephine Pullein Thompson
Michael Holroyd
Doris Lessing
Harold Pinter
Oddly enough the English Pen have decided to blog my inbox even though I have no connection
with English Pen and have been a member for ten years of the Poetry Society 22 Betterton Street
London, but I did notice that in one of the blogs recently from The Poetry Society : London there was
a reference to ENGLISH PEN so perhaps they have decided to criss cross results of their multi talented
writing competitions as I received over the years a lot of winners and their continued success;
English Pen comment that Margaret Drabble combines art and conscience which is highlighted here in
this blog and they note Drabble's great career as a novelist and her support for the work of other writers:
Thanks English Pen (And Poetry Society) for update: Great work pays royalties!
In point of fact the list of winers is indeed impressive and the focus here is on the list and the bottom name
when scrolled down to find Harold Pinter Playwright and over the career of teaching I have had the pleasure
of teaching Pinter Plays and even today its good to receive reminders of just how successful this author
was in his lifetime and his achievement has a universal application in teaching as it exists at present:
