Any presentation has any of the following goals;
1. To inform the audience ;
2. To inspire the audience to take action.
Many presenters prepare themselves very well,but unfortunately their presentation fails to achieve any of the above objectives. To be a successful presenter, it is necessary to be establish a 'audience connect.' Being, a mermber of Toastmasters International, I wanted to have some information on how to present material. At this, point in time, while seraching the web, I came across, the book, ''Presenting to Win- The Art of Telling of Your Story." by Jerry Weissman. Reading this book has enriched me with the knowledge of how to deliver a successful presentation.
He emphasises, that it is necessary to know what the audience wants. To be a successful, any presenter,must view himself, content through the eyes of the audience. The author uses, the term WIFY- WHATS IN IT FOR YOU ( AUDIENCE), to remind the presenter to have audience focus. Obviously, none of us would sit through a presentation from which we have nothing to gain. It is essential that we get them interested within a few minutes/seconds, so that they get the feeling that something is there for them to gain;
Useful techniques, have been given to attract audience attention, within the first few seconds. But that alone is not enough. The presenter has to ensure that the audience is interested throught the presenation. Skills and tips to navigate from the opening to the body have also been given. This involves the art of persuasion.
Tips have also been given as to how to conclude the presentation with a call to action, ensuring that the presenter is able to attain his goal.
The key is to prepare a story well and then rehearse its delivery.
Tips have also been given as to how to make an enchanting 'POWER POINT PRESENTATION'.
I have started using some of this tips, in preparing my next speech at Toastmasters'.
This book is a must to be a sucessful presenter.
