Subject: Imagine your holidays – developing speaking skills.

Level: pre-intermediate
Age: 15
Numbers of learners: 18
Students are generally active and willing to take part in the lesson. Sometimes they are very talkative and show off.
Warm up:
a) teacher checks the register
b) teacher asks students to write their names on separate sheets of paper and put those sheets of paper in front of them.
Objectives:
Students will be able to predict the topic of the lesson.
Students will be familiarized with the new vocabulary (adventure holiday, package holiday, safari, beach holiday, sightseeing tour, (river) cruise, camping holiday, and sailing holiday) and revise Present Simple and Present Continuous Tense.
Students will be able to imagine while listening sounds and talk about their images.
Students will be able to describe their holidays using Present Tenses.
Students will be able to write a postcard to their friends.
Students will be able to write some sentences using “I prefer I’d rather, I want to have” forms.
Students will be able to talk about their holidays using the new vocabulary (go abroad, go sightseeing, have fun and relax, historical capitals, unforgettable journey).
Objective 1
Activity: Teacher comes to the classroom and shows the students a postcard that she has received from her friend who was on holidays. She also brings some pictures of different places (mountains, beach, sea, seaside, and historical (places) capitals) and shows them to students. She also brings some paper flags from different places in the world and the travel guides. She asks students about their predictions about the topic of the lesson. Teacher creates interest in the class asking students some questions: Where do you usually go on holidays? Do you like holidays? Do you like travelling by plane or by bus? What do you like doling during holidays?
Aids: travel guides, postcards, paper flags, pictures.

Pattern of interaction: T – SS
Possible problems: Students may not guess the topic of the lesson.
Solution: Teacher can ask additional questions.
Objective 2
Activity: Teacher presents new vocabulary to the students. She shows the pictures describing words and asks students to repeat chorally and then individually. She puts the words on the blackboard. She also revises the use of Present Continuous Tense. She asks students “What am I doing?” and students answer her question using Present Continuous Tense.
Aids: blackboard, chalk, notebooks, pens
Language: language is related to the topic,
language of instructions – sandwich forms, Present Continuous Structures.
Pattern of interaction: T – SS, SS – T
Possible problems: SS may not remember Present Continuous Tense.
Solution: Teacher produces more examples and explains it once again.

Objective 3
Activity: Teacher asks students to work in pairs. She gives them pieces of paper with different places (mountains, sea, seaside, and beach) and coloured pencils. One person from the pair is supposed to describe his/her images while listening and the second one should colour them. Teacher plays a CD with pure sounds recorded. SS do the task.
Aids: CD recorder, a CD, pieces of paper, coloured pencils.

Possible problems: Students may have problems with expressing their thoughts.
Solution: Teacher can help asking additional questions.

Objective 4
Activity: Teacher asks students who were colouring to describe their pictures about their spending holidays. They use Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses. They tell about their favourite holidays to their friends. They use “I prefer I’d rather, I want to have” forms. The rest of students listen and choose whom they want to spend their holidays with.
Aids: drawings, colouring.
Language: language is connected with the topic.
Pattern interaction: T – SS, S – S
Possible problems: Teacher asks a student who was describing for help.

Objective 5
Activity: Teacher asks students to turn the page and write a postcard from holidays to their friends. Students are supposed to use vocabulary and structures that they used while speaking exercise.
Aids: drawing, pens
Language: related to the topic.

Possible problems: Students may have problems to write down their thoughts.
Solutions: Teacher may write some sentences on the blackboard.
