The Finkler Question

Book Summary   by:SM THOMPSON     Original Author: Howard Jacobson
ª

Reuters blogged confirming that Howard Jacobson at 68 years of age has won for the first time ever the writing competition . . The Man Booker Prize .... and Howard Jacobon ws the  surprise winner of the competition - Man Booker Prize on Tuesday . the book "The Finkler Question" is the first comic novel ever to win this prestigious competition

The 68 years old writer and critic specializing in writing about what it means to be Jewish in Britain today - Jacobson's first novel appeared 27 years ago (there is hope for us all, that is we budding writers ..)

Totally flabberghasted!   Jacobson had begun to wonder if he would ever win the prize - "I'm sick of being described as the /underrated Howard Jacobson/" was his comment at London's Guildhall and he continued "on the long list" and "embraced by the shortlist".  I thought the affair was never going to be
consummated!

Poet Andrew Motion together with a 5 member panel met for half an hr to chose one of the six entries ...
Poet Andrew Motion Chair of the Judges, said it woulld be a mistake to describe Jaconson's work as "pure comedy".  Motion commented ..... "It is comic - it is laughter - "

Last year Hilary Mantel won this prestigous prize and sales of her book soared to half a million  ...

Howard Jacobson as well as a cheque for £50,000 and a long list of interviews from the world's media has a plug for the sales of his book as well as a result of winning lst place in this prestitious writing competition .. The Man Booker Prize .. thanks Reuters!  The waiting game (and winning lst place!)  is for everyone I guess!
